Believing Beyond Belief

I would not have imagined being where we are right now in a zillion years, but I’m very thankful. We have a roof over our head, food in the fridge, and laughter. Hearing Amy and the girls laughing reminds me, we still love each other.

We left Texas 60 days ago, not knowing what we would return to, yet remaining hopeful God had a place for us to call home. If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance we’ve talked together in person about our housing need, or you read about our story and offered a prayer to the Lord on our behalf. We are filled with gratitude we are surrounded by faithful men and women of God.

Two and half weeks ago we had that gut feeling it was time to head back to Texas though we had no place to stay. Amy needed to start preparing for school, as well as trying to find a way to get all our belongings we stored in her classroom out of there. Honestly, it was a small step of faith to head home but have no home.

Friends of ours had left for a week conference, and we were able to stay at their home returning to Texas. Toward the end of the week, with no open doors for a permanent home, we knew we needed to switch gears. We were still waiting on the Lord to provide us a home, but we had to do something while we wait.

The school campus had an opening in one of the apartment buildings, and we were able to squeeze our family into one while we continued to wait on the Lord. Honestly, this isn’t what we hoped for, but it’s a place where we can wait. Waiting isn’t easy. Never has been. Waiting is really hard when there’s no evidence things will change.

As we set up our blow up mattresses the first night in the little apartment, we received a text from friends who gave a financial gift toward our housing need. We were all overcome with joy. The very night we moved into our place of waiting, God gave us a wink with this gift. I am reminded HE is working behind the scenes of what we see to provide for us a home.

It’s told to us Abraham’s faith wasn’t contingent on what he understood. He hoped against hope. Though he had never heard before his time of someone being raised from the dead, he believed even if he sacrificed his son, God would be able to resurrect his only son. Abraham was able to believe beyond belief. I’ve journal many times over these past few months about Abraham and his faith.

I spent this past week teaching in the Discipleship Training School on Lordship / Surrender. Amy joined me all day Wednesday, and together we shared on the topic of surrender. As they say, you can’t teach what you don’t know or are willing to live out yourselves.

Thank you for continuing to stand with us in prayer for a home here in East Texas. We believe this money we were given is seed money towards a home God is creating for us. As it says in Romans 4:17 … God creates new things out of nothing. We’ve learned an important lesson that God’s timing is key for answered prayer.

Though we had wished things would have been settled back at the end of June when we originally thought we’d be getting back to Texas, the extra month we had to share with family and friends was really important, and we are eternally grateful.

Did we happen to mention Molly was moving back to Texas for a season? Yep, she is. Pray for us as we fly to Washington Friday this week to get her car and belongings. We’ll be driving the long road back Sunday and Monday.
