“Why do you teach at Christian Heritage School?”
Earlier this week, this was a question asked at our teachers meeting. My friend’s response really touched my heart. She shared that in South Korea, where she grew up, God wasn’t part of the education system. God wasn’t talked about in the classroom, nor was He mentioned in the curriculum. Yet at CHS, He is.
It was touching to hear my friend’s answer. I can quickly take this for granted. Yet, what she said was so important to remember because God’s relationship to His creation is evident in every subject. There’s no distinction between secular and sacred. What is taught here at CHS in every class is His Story, and I’m thankful.
In literature class, there are many opportunities to disciple the students. Just this week we finished the book 1066: The Year of Conquest. It was a book written by a historian, who felt compelled to not just relay the facts of an event which shaped England’s history. He also wanted to share the human story behind this historical time. Who were these men; what might have possibly motivated them to do the things they did?
Out of this story came deep discussions in class about God and morality. This wasn’t just a story about the year 1066 in England. It was a story for us today in 2021. It was imperative to look at God’s word for truth to guide us as we discussed this book.
I love what I do. I love partnering with parents to disciple this next generation to discover truth because these are the young men and women who will one day be entering into every sphere of society in our world.
Christian Heritage School is a unique school with connections to two distinct organizations: Youth With a Mission and The Foundations for American Christian Education.
YWAM’s mission is To Know God and Make Him Known, and FACE’s philosophy emphasizes The Principle Approach is America’s historic method of Biblical reasoning which makes the Truths of God’s Word the basis of every subject in the school curriculum. Both groups have values that define who we are at Christian Heritage School, and both give purpose to why I am a full-time missionary at this school.
Over 40 years ago when this school was founded, Isaiah 58:12 was a key verse, and it remains a key Word from God for us today:
And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, the repairer of the breach, the restorer of paths to dwell in.
Isaiah 58:12
And recently, as the school leadership team gathered to pray for some future direction, God highlighted this Word from Scripture:
“‘I am the Lord, the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants. Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth! They will spread out in all directions—to the west and the east, to the north and the south…What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go…I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.’ Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, ‘Surely the Lord is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!’”
Genesis 28:13-17
Surely the Lord is in this place!!! We need God in our schools. He is the Truth, and His Word is the foundation that must be raised up for these young people to build their lives upon. How can we determine truth without His Word as our basis of every subject?! I think Noah Webster says it best, “Education is useless without the Bible.”
Recently, I enrolled in FACE’s Master Teacher Certification Program. I’ve been convicted it’s time to dive deeper into the Principle Approach. I look forward to gaining more understanding of the principles we value at this school. Pray for me as I commit to this training. With an already full plate, this is a sizable commitment to take on.
However, I don’t feel it is something I can put off. The responsibility to teach is a big one, and I am very aware of my great need for God to equip me. I believe this training is part of that equipping.
Thank you for your ongoing support for our family to minister with YWAM. Your prayers and financial gifts equip us to do what God has called us to in Tyler TX. YOU are making a difference in countless of lives who are being discipled at YWAM Tyler and CHS. To God be the glory!

What a fantastic invitation for your partners to know and distinguish the unique calling of which they are invested. Great pictures!
