You Can Be Part of God’s Rescue Too

Become Part of the Rescue was originally published in April of this year on a Bible reading blog where Amy writes. During our outreach with the School of Evangelism, we encountered many who needed to know they’re loved by Jesus. It’s why Amy and I are doing what we’re doing. We’ve been commissioned to go and make disciples! Part of our journey at Youth with a Mission, Tyler is also helping others enter rescue stories of their own. We hope you are encouraged by this story today.

“You and your prayers are part of the rescue operation.” (2 Corinthians 1:11 TM)

During my time in a small fishing village named Naknek, I met a young lady whom I’ll never forget. We had gone to this particular home to actually connect with a young man I had met on the streets a few days prior, yet God’s plan was to connect my heart with this girl instead and become part of the rescue operation in her life.

The house we entered was dirty and cluttered. One man was noticeably drunk, another was smoking pot in front of us, and then there was this girl, who was bruised and battered, slumped in a chair in the corner. I strategically made my way to her and knelt down to talk. She didn’t have much to say. We briefly chatted about dogs because she had one scurrying for attention at my feet. I told her, “Jesus loves you, and I believe He’s brought me here today to tell you that.” She smiled faintly and a few tears welled up in the corner of her eyes.

We talked a bit more than I asked how I could pray for her. She was quiet and then said, “I don’t know.” I wouldn’t give up and pressed further. “How about I just pray.” She said okay and agreed to let me lay my hand on her shoulder. I then prayed fervently for the Lord to touch the deep places of her wounded heart, set her free from the darkness abounding, and give her peace. As I prayed, she cried. It was a very tender few moments.

As I walked down the driveway to return to our car, tears welled up because I desperately wanted to go back in and snatch her away from the clutches of darkness. For the next hour or so afterwards, I found a quiet corner behind the church we were sleeping in and prayed. Tears flowed freely. No woman should be another man’s punching bag I told Jesus then I remembered these words,

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” (Psalm 34:18 NLT)

Words I clung to and have not stop praying since I met this precious woman. I’ve even
written her name on my hand to remind me to lift her up to Jesus every time I see it. God brought me to this home to become part of the rescue operation in this woman’s life, and I’m going to continue praying fervently for her, believing that Jesus will set her free!

God wants us to partner with Him in rescue operations tweetbutton

He wants us faithfully and zealously praying for others, standing between them and the enemy. In the name of Jesus, we have been given authority to declare liberty for captives, salvation for the lost, healing for the sick, and comfort for the brokenhearted.

Are you ready to become part of the rescue operation in another person’s life? Pray and ask God to show you who He wants you interceding for. Write their name on your hand and PRAY! Pray passionately, pray consistently, pray boldly, and don’t stop until the Lord rescues!

“The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” (James 5:16 NLT)

  1. Amy/Richard:

I wanted to let you know that I have prayed for your ministry and I have read your various Blogs. This particular Blog really hit me on so many levels. What a witness you are to myself and others not only by how you live truly on Faith for all needs but also how you demonstrate compassion with patience – waiting on God’s timing and not your own. This truly resonated to me in this message. Our human side would grab the young child in such as situation and run but your in touch relationship with God desiring to react at His Will and His Timing gave you the wisdom to do exactly what we are put here to do – plant the seed, walk away, pray, and watch God work. I must say this was so inspirational to me as this is where I must confess I struggle – wanting to fix things in my timing and not waiting on His timing.

Thank you for sharing your stories both those with struggles and praises – it truly makes it real and easy for us all to relate. May God continue to Bless Your Ministry and Your Precious Family!
